THE BAND
Splint! gathers some of the finest musicians from the Scandinavian improvised music scene. Band founder Johannes Lundberg's vision before putting the group together in 2004 was to form a unit with perfect match both on an artistic and a personal level: good friends have all chances in the world to make good music. And have a lot of fun on the way too.
A recording session took place in Lundberg's red cottage on the Swedish countryside outside Ulricehamn. A few intense days of playing, eating, drinking and discussing the meaning of life resulted in many hours of improvised music on hard disk. The post-production was a matter of carefully selecting which parts to use and scale them down to a format that would fit on a CD.

Splint! are: Jon Fält (SE): drums, sampler (has played with Bobo Stenson Trio, Ken Vandermark and others), Gunnar Halle (NO): trumpet, electronics (New Jungle Orchestra, Tys Tys, etc), Nils-Olav Johansen (NO): guitar, guitar synth, electronics, voice (Transjoik, Farmers Market, etc), Johannes Lundberg (SE): double bass, synths, electronics (Bill Cobham, Susi Hyldgaard, etc)

THE MUSIC
Splint! is a jazz act without a doubt but this is jazz in the same way as Arve Henriksen or Supersilent, they have horns, double bass and drums but they also manage to inject their sound with samplers, laptops and synthesizer. Their music is a fusion of old and new, blending the sound of Miles Davis and Alice Coltrane with abstract electronics. This is still jazz, somehow, but with a punk attitude and an expert ear for experimentation which should push Splint! into the kind of places rarely reached by a band of this kind - the music manages to be utterly entrancing and poking fun rather than fitting in gracefully. This is ECM re-wired for a new generation of listener, music that practically demands you to take notice and in that becomes something totally new and quite unique.
